Newtown Together Men’s Shed in Newtownhamilton hosted 11 Men’s sheds from Armagh and Down last week following a recent Guinness World Record attempt.
The Irish Mens Shed Association(IMSA) presented attendees with a new electric kettle as a thank you for participating in the World Record attempt where a new record was set for the largest display of kettles! The record of 1,089 fully working kettles, ranging from brand new to over 70 years old, was set on 19 November 2024 at the IMSA national Conference and Shedfest in Mucklagh Conference Centre, Tullamore Co. Offaly in front of a live audience and was livestreamed to shedders around Ireland and the World. Flogas donated a total of 550 brand new kettles to support the attempt and these are now being distributed to Sheds throughout Ireland.
The Irish Mens Shed Association (IMSA) team Eva Beirne, Eamonn O'Connor and Raymond Flynn were on hand to present the Sheds with the kettles, with assistance from Pete Haughey and hosts Newtown Together Men’s Shed.
Kettles are one of the most important ‘tools’ in any Men’s Shed in supporting social connection, which is why the Association decided to go for the Guinness World Record. A minimum of 1,000 kettles was needed and had to be in perfect working order. The kettles had come from sheds, schools, offices and other community groups all over Ireland.
Check out the local Mens Shed near you at menssheds.ie and you can be sure the kettle will be on and the crack will just be beginning.
