Two local inspirational characters Ryan Cinnamond and Willie McCracken have been announced as the two Newry Representatives to carry the Olympic Torch when it arrives in Newry in June. The pair were announced at the weekend at Pairc Esler where the torch will be taken to on the 5th of June.
Announcing the Bearers Newry and Mourne Mayor, Charlie Casey said he was "Delighted that the Olympic Torch is coming to Newry in this my year as Mayor. It certainly will be a unique occasion and one which will give everyone in the community an opportunity to come together to celebrate this once in a lifetime experience"
The torchbearers were successful through the public nomination process run by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG).
Day 18 of the Torch Relay will see the Touch Bearers starting from the Downshire Road/ Windsor Avenue junction, past the Courthouse on Trevor Hill, Water Street, Abbey Way, William St, Kilmorey St, Warrenpoint and on to Pairc Esler.
