A 67 year old woman and a 19 year old man have lost their lives on the Dublin Road in Newry following a two vehicle road traffic incident late yesterday afternoon.

At around 5:25pm, it was reported that a blue Ford Fiesta and a brown Nissan Qashqai were involved in an incident at the old main Belfast to Dublin Road.
It is believed that the driver of the Fiesta and a passenger of the Nissan Qashqai were fatally injured during the incident. The driver is believed to have died at the scene, and the female passenger was taken to a nearby hospital, but died as a result of her injuries.
The vehicles were removed and the road was re-opened in the early hours of this morning.
Officers investigating this collision are keen to hear from witnesses and can be contacted at the Collision Investigation Unit by calling the non-emergency number 101.
The Mayor of Newry & Mourne District Council, Cllr Dáire Hughes has extended sympathies to the families of those killed. "The news of further fatalities on our roads has shocked and saddened the entire community and on their behalf I extend deepest sympathies to the families of those tragically killed.
