Sums of Money and jewellery have been stolen in two burglaries that took place in Newry over the weekend. Police are linking the incidents and are appealing for information. The first burglary happened in the Ashgrove Park area on Friday while the second occured in Carnagat Park area on the Saturday. Neither house was occupied at the time.
Detective Sergeant Stewart said: “Police received a report shortly before 9.10pm on Friday, 17th February that a house had been broken into in the Ashgrove Park area of the city.
“Substantial damage was caused to the inside of the property and a sum of money was taken.
“Police received a further report at 12.25am on Saturday morning, 18th February of a burglary at a house in the Carnagat Park area of Newry.
“Items of jewellery and a sum of money were taken during this burglary and we linking both of these reports.
“Thankfully no one was in the properties at the time of the burglaries and our investigation is now underway to determine what happened and who was involved."
DS Stewart is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in these areas or may have information that could help with their enquiries, to get in touch with police on 101, quoting reference numbers 1933 of 17/02/23 and 34 of 18/02/23.
