Two police officers were injured in the early hours of yesterday morning, Saturday 27 December after their patrol vehicle was rammed by a car in Forkhill, with the vehicle then fleeing across the border. The incident was part of a weekend which saw a total of 14 officers assaulted across the south area between Friday evening and Saturday morning.
The collision happened at around 1.40am on Church Road in Forkhill on 27 December when a silver Renault Megane collided with the police car on patrol in the area. The vehicle failed to stop and then fled across the border.
Chief Inspector Adam Ruston said the patrol vehicle sustained damage which will render it unusable for the foreseeable future as a result of the incident. Two officers were injured in the collision.
Across the south area over the weekend period, one officer had to receive hospital treatment for a bite injury sustained during the spate of assaults.
Chief Inspector Ruston described it as "a shocking amount of assaults on police" and said it was "totally unacceptable". He added that this type of behaviour places members of the public and officers at risk of serious harm and said they were lucky not to be dealing with serious injuries.
Police are urgently appealing to anyone who may have seen the silver Renault Megane in the area, or who may have any information or dash-cam footage that could assist with enquiries, to contact them via 101 quoting reference number 139 of 27/12/25.
