Write a commentTwo teenage boys have died this morning in a single vehicle incident between Markethill and Newtownhamilton.
The incident happened on the Cladymilltown Road which remains closed.
MLA Cathal Boylan has extended his sympathies to the families of those killed.
"It's always a tragedy when lives are lost on our roads but it is tinged with a particular sadness when the lives taken are so young," he said.
"What exactly happened will be figured out in due course but at this moment all we can do is offer our support, thoughts, prayers and sympathies to the families of those killed.
"The weather recently, combined with the state of our rural roads has made them particularly dangerous so I would urge drivers to exercise every caution when using them."
Councillor Sharon Haughey-Grimley also expressed her deep sadness adding, "The entire community are stunned by this very sad news this morning that two young men have lost their lives on the Cladymilltown Road.
"My thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s families at this devastating time and also with the injured passenger and I hope he makes a full recovery from this heartbreaking accident.
"Unfortunately this is not the first time that this particular road has claimed lives. It’s an extremely dangerous and fast road with poor visibility at times. Driving conditions this morning were also undoubtedly affected by the bad weather.
"I urge all road users to take extra care on our roads at all times.
"Two families have been absolutely devastated today and no words will bring them comfort at this time but the prayers of the entire community are with them so that they may find the strength to face this."
