A new * portable toilet for use by the public has appeared at Victoria Lock on the Omeath Road, as part of a Council Trial, but if you want to use it you would need to be quick as it's only in place till Sunday?
Many have called for toilet facilities at the popular tourist facility and demand has increased with many more people in the area as a result of the opening of the stretch of Carlingford Lough Greenway from Albert Basin to Victoria Lock in Spring 2018.
For the next few days, the call of the wild or more specifically the call of nature is more important than ever, with the phrase 'use it or lose it' very apt.
The facility has been on trial over the Easter period and it will remain in place officially until this Sunday 24 April so you have four days to show Council if there is a need for it!
A note at the toilet facility explains that your comments on the trial are welcome and you can send them to facilities.management@nmandd.org
The experiment is part of a trial under the Council's Public Toilet Strategy which agreed to consider the use of portable toilets as part of Council provisions in specific areas on a trial basis. The Strategy was approved at the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Neighbourhood Services Committee Meeting in February 2022.
No doubt it will be a useful facility for this Sunday's Charity walk and Cycle and others like it.
