Write a commentTomorrow Tuesday sees the Gaudeamus Choir perform their annual carol service ‘Venite’ in the Chapel of the Convent of Mercy Catherine Street, Newry. The service will commence at 8pm.
It follows on from the success of last year’s inaugural carol service.
For the past number of weeks the choir has been in rehearsals perfecting a Christmas repertoire that includes contemporary carols from Todd, Lauridsen, Gillen and Rutter. The service will also include traditional congregational carols as well as a variety of readings all of which will provide a unique reflection on the nativity.
This year we are also very proud to be joined by Lauren McCann who will be singing solo with us. Lauren is a student at Our Lady’s Grammar School, Newry where she is studying for her GCSEs. A Soprano student of Fiona Flynn, Lauren has also performed with the Ulster Youth Choir in the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
Given the success of recent services we are anticipating a high degree of interest in this event and would encourage any person looking to attend to arrive early.
There is no admission fee however a collection will be taken up proceeds of which will be donated to PIPS Newry and Mourne.
