Newry woman Vera McGahan is celebrating her 100th Birthday today, 12 February 2024, with a steady line of friends and family calling to her Johnstons Terrace home in Kiln Street, Newry.
Born 12 February 1924 Vera's early years were in Canal Street in Newry where she went to St Clare's Primary School. Her father was Head Constable of the RIC Anthony Henry. Her husband Tom McGahan was the Manager of Quinn's The Milestone in Newry.

Vera has spent many years helping out with St Catherine's Dominican, the Bosco Club and Friends of Daisy Hill amongst others. She spent an amazing 47 years at the Bosco Club from 1972 right up to 2019.

Today Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Valerie Harte called with a card and a beautiful floral bouquet. As was fitting for the day that was in it cards from President Higgins and King Charles adorned the mantlepiece.
Jim McGuigan was another visitor who called by to convey birthday wishes from the Bosco Youth Club and Drama Group teams while former Council worker Paddy Duffy and former Councillor Gavin Malone also shouted in.
