Police have said that a security alert ongoing for most of today in the Ashgrove Park area of Newry has ended. A 'viable yet crude' device was discovered during the incident.
Inspector Porter said: “Police received a report at around 11.10am that a device had been left in the Ashgrove Road area of Newry. A safety operation was subsequently put in place with a number of roads closed.
“Ammunition Technical Officers attended and determined that the object was a viable yet crude device.
“Residents have now been permitted to return to their homes, and all cordons have now been lifted. We thank the public for their patience.
Police enquiries are ongoing and they are appealing to anyone with any information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 540 of 02/03/26.
