A vigil in memory of the late Anu Okusanya has been organised for this Thursday 12 September in Newry.
Taking place at 7.00pm outside Newry Town Hall it will give the public a chance to express their outrage at the circumstances surrounding Anna's death. It is hoped that large numbers will be in attendance.
Anu who is originally from Nigeria was living in Damolly Village. She collapsed after running to a friend’s house on 24 August to raise the alarm after seeing a gang who had attacked her several times previously, beating up someone else. She died in hospital on 28 August.
Her only son Olaitan was due to arrive in Newry on 12 September to start a new life here but instead he will be attending his mothers funeral taking place on 14 September at Monkshill Cemetery.
An appeal has been launched by the Newry Reporter on GoFundMe with almost £8000 raised already. The funds from the appeal will be used to pay for a gravestone for Anu, with the remainder being used to give Olaitan the best possible start to his new life in Newry.
