Now that quite a few Christmas dinners have been consumed it's almost compulsory to feel guilty about not getting out to walk it all off. So tomorrow 28 December is your big chance as you can join up with members of the Gap o the North Hill Walking Club for their annual Christmas Walk and après party.
The club based at Jonesborough are looking forward to walking off all that turkey and ham and new members are always welcome, just come along on the day.
Through the year the club embarks on regular walks and has a strong local focus on the Cooleys and the Ring of Gullion with occasional trips to the Mournes and further afield.
As far as possible we try to combine each walk with some local knowledge of history or archaeological sites and interpretation of landscape to show farming and community development over the centuries.
Meet at the Gap o’ the North pub in Jonesborough at 11:30 am for registration with the walk setting off at 12 noon. The walk will take around 3/3.5 hours and expect ot be on a mix of open hillside, forest trails and road.
All walkers will need deep thread walking boots, wind/water proof jacket, a packed lunch and plenty of water.
Of course the après party will warm you up even if the weather outside is frightful. There will be live music from Alan at 5pm followed by Joanne on the decks until late.
