A Warrenpoint man plans to make his third journey to Ukraine at the end of this month. Anthony Hughes from Drive For Ukraine NI is currently fundraising for the trip.
South Down MLA Patrick Brown recently met with Hughes who has made the lengthy journey to Ukraine by car twice already. On those occasions he droped off much needed medical supplies and diesel generators. The ambulance fleet and medical cars in Ukraine have depleted due to the ongoing conflict and Ukrainian volunteers have resorted to 4x4 cars as a means of transportation for those injured.
Patrick Brown said, ‘The Ukrainian war has had a devastating impact on civilians. Anthony’s work is filling a need that is perhaps unseen in the combat. He has done fantastic and selfless work to fundraise huge amounts of money and make the dangerous journey to Ukraine. If anyone would like to donate to the campaign, you can do so by checking out the Drive for Ukraine NI facebook page where there is a GoFundme page set up.’
Anthony added: "Rarely in our lives do we have the opportunity to help in a situation where the differences in Good and Evil are so plain to see. I will continue to help the Ukrainian people for as long as necessary and am incredibly grateful for the local support assisting with the purchase of critical equipment that saves lives."
Hughes is currently £3000 off his target and welcomes all support and donations towards his work. You can donate at www.gofundme.com
