Whitecross man Eugene Reavey delivered a powerful presentation to a meeting of Relatives for Justice at Leinster House. Relatives for Justice are an organisation which advocates for families whose loved ones were members of the GAA and lost their lives during The Troubles.
Newry & Armagh SDLP MLA Justin McNulty hailed the ‘heroic dignity’ of victims campaigner Eugene Reavey. Mr. McNulty said he was “honoured” to accompany Eugene Reavey to Leinster House.
Mr McNulty said “Eugene Reavey is a pillar within our community. Despite the horror and trauma endured by his family when loyalist paramilitaries murdered three of his brothers in their family home, Eugene has never yielded in his advocacy for fairness, truth, and justice for all victims of our conflict.
“When so many others were content to traffick in violence and hate, Eugene has always stood in defence of the dignity of the human person. The warmth of the reception for Eugene from TDs of all parties was a testament to the high esteem in which Eugene and his family are held."
The MLA concluded “It was also special to be joined in the Dáil by Armagh all-time great, Diarmuid Marsden, who was representing Ulster GAA. I would strongly encourage families who have lost GAA family members during the conflict to engage with Relatives for Justice to ensure that their loved ones lives are commemorated and their story is told.”
