A £292,000 resurfacing scheme has commenced on Windmill Road, Newry. A road closure will be in force from now till 28 October from 9am to 4.30pm.
The improvement work which began yesterday will extend from Church Street to Courtney Hill, Newry and includes resurfacing of the carriageway with upgrading of road drainage.
The road will be open to traffic in the evenings and at weekends. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times, although some minor delays may be experienced and road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey.
An alternative route will be signed with traffic being diverted as follows:
South Bound Diversion: Church Street - High Street - A28 Abbey Way (South bound) - Boat Street - Courtney Hill.
North Bound Diversion: Courtney Hill - Boat Street - A28 Abbey Way (North bound) - High Street - Church Street.
The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public.
Completion of the work by 28 October 2022 is dependent on favourable weather conditions. The Department will keep the public informed of any change. All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
