A woman aged in her 50s has died following a house fire in Bearna Park, Meigh on Saturday, 21 June. A young male was also taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries.
Police received a report of the fire at approximately 8.40am, and attended alongside colleagues from other emergency services.
The fire was extinguished by the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service but tragically the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are continuing to conduct enquiries into the cause of the fire and are appealing to anyone who may have footage that could assist with the investigation, to contact detectives. They have also called on members of the public to refrain from sharing footage online.
Newry and Armagh MP, Dáire Hughes spoke of the community’s shock at the news. “Our sincerest condolences to the family, friends and neighbours of the individual who tragically lost their life in a house fire this morning in Meigh.
“There is a palpable sense of shock in the community at this horrific incident.”
MLA Justin McNulty added "Shocked and saddened on hearing the devastating news from Meigh. My thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of the deceased who died so tragically in a house fire"
