Write a commentThe South Armagh Centenary Committee have launched of their Siúil na mBan event at a function at Slieve Gullion Courtyard. The event on the 6 March will remember the women of 1916.
Councillors Roisin Mulgrew, Liz Kimmins and Mickey Larkin as well as MLAs Megan Fearon and Conor Murphy and MP Mickey Brady attended the launch of the event.
Thomas Marron, Chairperson of the South Armagh Centenary Committee, said it was appropriate that the women of the revolution were specifically honoured.
"In Ireland an invisible army of women suffered and fought, not just for the freedom of their country, but for education for all children, fair employment and humane treatment of prisoners," he said.
"These brave women are remembered with our commemorative event Siúil na mBan. Beginning with a walk around a buggy friendly route of Slieve Gullion, there will then be music, refreshments and an exhibition on Women in revolution in the Hawthorne Suite.
"Taking place on Mother's Day this unique event will honour revolutionary women but is of course open to all and we would encourage men and women, young and old to attend."
Siúil na mBan takes place on Sunday, March 6. Registration is at 12 noon in Slieve Gullion Courtyard.
