Representatives from some of Buttercrane’s locally-owned businesses are pictured supporting Miss Buttercrane Claire Lyons (centre) who, in the style of Uncle Sam’s famous poster, calls upon the public to support the Buy Local campaign. The local retailers featured are (from left): James Loughran, Zest; Fiona Denvir, Argento; Alison Dunne, Specsavers; and John Gildea, Bureau de Change.Buttercrane Shopping Centre has launched an 'Independents’ Day to promote the Shop Local call.

“We want YOU…to shop local” is the message from the Buttercrane who are making it their business to back Newry & Mourne’s Buy Local campaign.

The initiative aims to encourage citizens to spend their money within the local community and support local businesses.

Buttercrane’s city centre mall plays quite a part on the jobs front by employing 900 local people, making it responsible for pouring some £10m of wages back into the economy each year.

Amongst Buttercrane’s 50+ stores, anchored by M&S, Dunnes and Primark, there are many locally-owned outlets, such as Cookstop, Louis Boyd, Argento, Zest, O’Brien’s, Bureau, Spar, Specsavers, DV8, and Exhibit.
