Write a commentThis weekend sees the premiere of new theatre production Blood Red Lines in Newry Town Hall.
It's a must see for all, even if just to reflect on how far we have come locally from the dark days of the troubles and to ensure that we never go back there. The aim of the project is to use these stories to deliver something completely unique, including pieces of theatre that will radically change the way we think as a society.
Blood Red Lines is on this Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 February at 7pm. Admission is free but you need to get your ticket from the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre or phone the box office on 028 3031 3031.
The new piece of verbatim theatre is devised and Directed by Robert Rae for The Playhouse Theatre and Peacebuilding Academy in Derry and the cast is composed of ordinary people who were caught up in the tragedies in south Armagh, the border Counties and Dublin.
Tommy Sands provides the musical background on stage and many local stories are told.
BAFTA winning film and theatre maker Robert Rae has spent the last six months collaborating with those impacted by conflict, horror and loss in the darkest days of The Troubles and has produced a remarkable piece of contemporary theatre.
It's part of an ambitious EU PEACE IV funded arts programme by the Playhouse Theatre.
Victims and survivors wrestle with the complexity of how and what to tell the next generation ... their individual rights set against the refusal of those responsible and government bodies to share the truth ... and the impact upon their own lives of the events they endured.
