Newry City Councillor, Doire Finn, has welcomed the establishment of a new Arts Working Group by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
The motion from Cllr Finn received backing from parties across the council chamber at Monday's 8 September Economy, Regeneration and Tourism meeting. For the first time in many years, the council will now have a dedicated forum focused on supporting and strengthening the thriving arts scene in communities across the district.
Councillor Doire Finn said: "I am delighted that councillors from across the chamber have supported this proposal to establish a dedicated Arts Working Group.
"The SDLP is determined to make Newry, Mourne and Down a place where creativity is valued and nurtured.
"Our party has always championed the power of the arts to bring people together, strengthen communities, and drive local economic growth.
"This working group will give artists, cultural groups and local organisations a stronger voice in shaping council policy, ensuring that their contribution to our district's identity and community life is recognised and supported."
