The golden age of Hilltown cinema is returning this weekend with the launch of the new School House Cinema Club. The Picture House in Hilltown was run by the Wards back in the 1950's and that magic of community cinema will be recreated this Sunday 9 March in the INF Hall.
That They May Face The Rising Sun (2023) is a poignant, rural meditation on life, love and friendship is based on the bestselling novel by John McGahern, and is a steadfast adaptation that finds beauty in the mundane, as is the case with the original text. Joe and his wife Kate have quit the London life to return to the rolling Irish landscape of his childhood (filmed in stunning Connemara), and soon enough their quirky “London ways” and boho stylings are the talk of the local community, who flock to view these exotic new residents. A simple, yet powerful tale of love on the move, of community, and of friendships through adversity. A quiet giant that stays with the soul. The film is certified 15 and is Directed by Pat Collins casting Barry Ward, Anna Bederke and Ruth McCabe.
