Iúr Cinn Fleadh is over for another year but it certainly has left behind many memorable moments.
Blackie O'Connell kicked off the Fleadh on Thursday night with an amazing energy to an absolutely packed Railway Bar. The regular Trad Cruises up and down Newry Ship Canal continue to be the most sought after ticket in town and this year proved no exception. A unique event with Horslips members Barry Devlin and Jim Lockhart and the Oriel Trad Orchestra at the Hall for All was the highlight for many with a packed audience listening to stories from the band members and music from the incredibly talented orchestra.
Dancing on the Greens got even bigger this year taking in many more parts of town giving an amazingly varied display of musical and dancing talent from near and far. Melissa McCabes Street Feast at the Market saw well over 1000 people come through the gates throughout the day to listen to two incredibly talented bands. A Bodhran workshop at Newry Christian Centre proved incredibly popular while Kenny Gregg and his band created a wonderful ambience at Newry Methodist Church.
Sticky Fingers was as fun as ever with events on the Brian Ború while Bikes and Beats on the Streets on Sunday took fun to a completely different level!
The story of Johnny Doherty was a beautiful wind down to the festival on Monday night followed by the Final Fling at the Railway. Of course the Fleadh wouldn't be the Fleadh without an assortment of popular sessions and they certainly didn't fail to entertain. Here's to 2024!
