Write a commentA joint exhibition by photographer John Minihan and painter John Kingerlee is running at Fiddlers Green Festival until the 26th of July from 11am to 6pm daily at Kilbroney Integrated Primary School.
The exhibition was officially opened by University of Ulster Professor Mike Catto with special guest Ros Drinkwater, Fine Arts Columnist for the Sunday Business Post.
John Minihan is an Irish photographer, born in Dublin in 1946 and raised in Athy, County Kildare. He worked for the Daily Mail and then the Evening Standard during which time he captured the iconic snap of the 19-year-old Lady Diana Spencer in the garden of the nursery at which she worked, the morning sun to her back, her legs in silhouette through her skirt.
This is the first time Minihan’s work has been shown north of the border and the exhibition features images of Diana, Samuel Beckett, Seamus Heaney, artist Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, screen legends Richard Burton, Al Pacino and designers Yves San Laurent and Pierre Cardin.
John Kingerlee (1936) is an Irish painter currently living on the Beara peninsula, in West Cork and has exhibited works in Ireland, England, Canada, India, China and a four year tour of 20 venues in The United States.
Born in Birmingham, his family had connections to Cork and John lived in Cornwall for 20 years before he moved in 1982 to an isolated farmhouse on the Beara Peninsula in West Cork.
Famed New York Times Art critic William Zimmer described Kingerlee as a ‘superlative talent’.
Internationally renowned art scholar Dr Ted Pillsbury – Director of the foremost Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth described Kingerlee as the most talented artist working today, referring to him as ‘Turner’s successor’.
