Newry's first ever Indo Celtic Fusion Fest has been hailed a success after drawing more than 100 people to a celebration of Indian and Irish culture at Threeways Community Centre.

The event, organised by Newry Indian Arts Club, took place on Tuesday 24 February and featured a blend of traditional music, dance and art from both cultures. It was supported by the Housing Executive, which provided a £2,998 grant through its Race Relations Programme.

Siju George, Program Coordinator at the Newry Indian Arts Club, said the event built on the momentum of last year's Newry Mela. "In 2025 we celebrated the first Newry Mela, which saw over 500 people come together to enjoy live music and dance and celebrate local culture and diversity."

George added that the festival was about more than entertainment. "At Newry Indian Arts Club, we strongly believe that art has the power to connect people beyond boundaries. Indo Celtic Fusion Fest is not just an event, but a platform that encourages cultural exchange and mutual appreciation between communities. Thanks to the Housing Executive for facilitating this opportunity to showcase our two cultures and strengthen community relationships."

The Housing Executive's Gerard Smith, Good Relations Officer, welcomed the opportunity to back the initiative. "We're delighted to support the Newry Indian Arts Club to bring together residents from diverse backgrounds, build connections and provide an accessible cultural event. This helps build a foundation for strong, resilient communities and contributes to more connected, safer and more inclusive neighbourhoods."

The Indo Celtic Fusion Fest is the latest in a series of cultural events organised by Newry Indian Arts Club aimed at fostering stronger ties between communities in the Newry area.
