Blood Red Lines the sold out theatre production produced in Newry is going to London next month. It made its debut in Newry Town Hall in February 2019 and also toured in Dundalk, Dublin, Belfast and the Edinburgh Festival.
The new piece of verbatim theatre was devised and directed by BAFTA winning film and theatre maker Robert Rae for The Playhouse Theatre and Peacebuilding Academy in Derry. The cast is composed of eleven ordinary people who were caught up in the tragedies in south Armagh, the border Counties and Dublin. Their stories are complimented by songs from the legendary Tommy Sands and tunes from Dundalk fiddle player Peter O’Connor.
Blood Red Lines will be hosted 16 and 17 February 2023 at the London Irish Centre.
The production is an emotional roller coaster with those with lived experience of the tragedies of South Armagh and Border counties in the darkest days of The Troubles sharing their stories for the truth recovery arts initiative. The cast locally include Alan Brecknell whos father Trevor was murdered in Donnellys Bar, Silverbridge in 1975 and Paul Reavey who recalls the murder of his brothers' in Whitecross in 1976.
