Write a commentAn exhibition of locally inspired paintings by artists, Aileen Parker from outside Newry, and North Antrim’s Deborah McConaghie opened last Saturday in “the GAP” gallery, Newry City Library, and continues to the end of the month.
The exhibition was opened by Newry & Mourne Mayor, Councillor John McArdle.
The theme of the collection is “Our Place” which reflects the local scenes and traditions featured. County Down beauty spots feature strongly, among them Slieve Commedagh, Carlingford Lough and Castlewellan Lake. Most paintings are in oil although there are some ink sketches.
Aileen and Deborah met while studying architecture at Queen’s University, Belfast. While both have been painting for a number of years now, this is their first exhibition together.

Aileen is from the Newry area and says she is pleased to be putting her work on display in the town.
“It’s great to get the chance to show this work in my home town and the new GAP gallery is a brilliant venue. I am pleased to be sharing the exhibition with Deborah.” Aileen Parker
