Newry is the venue next month for a real feast of Irish folk music from The Kilkennys who are playing in the city for the very first time, with support from John Garrity.
The Kilkennys play the Canal Court in Newry on Saturday 7 March at 7.30pm with tickets available at www.eventbrite.co.uk Expect a night filled with classic Irish songs, modern folk favourites and an electric atmosphere.
Widely regarded as one of Ireland's best folk and ballad bands The Kilkennys are currently sailing the high seas around the Caribbean, on the Majestic Princess cruise ship for the annual Cruise of Irish Stars - but once docked in port all roads will definitely lead to Newry.
A powerhouse of ballads, the Kilkennys are noted for their dynamic arrangements, energetic performances and charismatic rapport with audiences across the globe.
Picking up the mantle left by acts such as The Dubliners and The Clancy Brothers, the group continue to conquer tour circuits in Europe and America. They have played the Milwaukee Irish Fest, the largest Irish Festival in the world and even got a slot on the Late Late Show.
They recently brought out a double album celebrating 25 years together. The album playlist captures the heart and energy that have defined the band’s sound for a quarter of a century. From the lively rhythm of Fiddler John to the storytelling magic of Mystic Lipstick, each track reflects the music, people, and places that have shaped The Kilkennys since their first tours together.
“This album is more than a milestone for us,” band member Davey Cashin said.“It’s a thank-you, to everyone who’s sung along, booked us, followed us around the world, and helped keep Irish music alive.”
As well as Newry The Kilkennys are playing across Ireland and the UK this year with a ten day tour of Germany on the cards too.
