Curtains rose last night, 24 February, at the 2024 Lislea Drama Festival. Audiences were delighted by Enniskillen Theatre Company’s memorable production of Martin McDonagh’s dark comedy ‘The Lonesome West’.
This play is part of McDonagh’s infamous Leenane Trilogy. The festival adjudicator praised director Ena Trimble’s assured piece of directing and the suitably decrepit set. She thought they had got the festival off to a very energetic start.In particular she loved the rapport between the two brothers Coleman and Valene played by Michael Boyle and Christian Carbin .Their epic fight scenes which, drew laughter from a packed house, were notable for their comedic timing and strong physical choreography. Audience and Adjudicator were united in agreeing this was a tremendous start to the competition.
Tonight we look forward to another family saga with the Castleblaney Player’s performance of ‘ No Going Back ‘. This dark tale set in the aftermath of the Irish Civil War is one not to be missed.

Prior to the successful opening night of Lislea’s 42nd Drama Festival the festival hosted a welcome dinner for adjudicator Imelda Mc Donagh at the Carrickdale Hotel.
