On a beautiful Sunday such as today one could be forgiven for asking where is everybody in Newry? Apart from those serial shoppers, it appears that everyone else has 'left the building'. Traditionally, especially during the summer months there is an exodus out of the city to far flung parts of Armagh, Down and Louth and even further afield. The Silent Valley, Newcastle, Slieve Gullion, Cranfield, Carlingford, Warrenpoint Gyles Quay and Omeath are just some of the popular destinations. That exodus at least is possible for people who have access to their own transport. For others, Sunday public transport doesn't make it easy to visit places such as Slieve Gullion Forest Park and many no doubt resign themselves to staying at home.
This all leads to a question - Do you stay about Newry on a beautiful summers day and if so what do you do? We're obviously not talking about sitting at home watching the TV. More a question on what is there to do in Newry on a Sunday and how do you occupy yourself and your family, especially if you don't have access to transport. Taking this a step further what would you like to see in Newry that would not only be perfect for local people but would also attract others to here.
