Write a comment80/20 Recycling is a new exciting Newry social enterprise, born out of community need to provide meaningful opportunities for local people, including people with disabilities, who have an interest in supporting their community and saving the planet!
The project offers a free local collection service (3026 0942) for good quality household furniture and also accepts bric-a-brac, ornaments, curtains, clothings and mobile phones of any condition which can be dropped off, weekdays, at their WIN Business Park warehouse. Customers can enjoy local guilt-free shopping that won't cost the earth, including a range of hand-crafted wood products made from reclaimed timber donated by Haldane Fisher.The project recently engaged the support of Cllr Colman Burns, Mayor of Newry & Mourne District Council at a Work 4 U event organised by Newry & Mourne Enterprise Agency at WIN. 80/20 Recycling's General Manager, Beni Benstead said "We're really grateful for the Mayor's help in reaching out to local people from all sections of the community, including younger people who might have just had their mock exam results and might not be sure which direction to take." The project has Trainee programmes primarily around wood skills and retailing and also volunteer placements for local people who want to help others and who have time, energy and skills to spare. Many of those involved with the project have physical or learning disabilities or are recovering from mental ill health.
