Mulkerns Maxol Service Station has won a Store of the Year award along with an Excellence in Community Engagement award at the recent Maxol Excellence Awards.
Mulkerns Maxol won the coveted Store of the Year Award for topping the league tables across all categories for 2022 and the Excellence in Community Engagement Award for their outstanding fundraising efforts for Maxol’s charity partner AWARE NI and their creative and innovative approach to community engagement.
Speaking on their win, Terry Mulkerns said: "We're delighted to win these Maxol Awards for Store of the Year and Community Engagement. Community support has always been one of our core values, and it's something we ensure we go the extra mile for, so it's great to be recognised with Awards such as these. Of course, we couldn't bring home these awards without a great team behind us, and this is a testament to the continued hard-work and dedication of Team Mulkerns."
The Awards, which returned for the first time since 2019, promote excellence in station and store standards, customer experience, and community engagement throughout Maxol’s network of service stations across the island of Ireland.
They are designed to recognise the exceptional efforts made by Maxol Independent Licensees, Independent Dealers and their staff and are assessed through regular store audits, mystery shopper visits and reviews of each store’s local community engagement – rewarding retailers who are “at the heart of it” in their local communities and have run special initiatives for Maxol’s Charity partner Aware NI.
Among Mulkerns award-winning community engagement initiatives were the weekly "Local Supplier Markets" which they ran last year as an opportunity for local suppliers to meet and connect with their customers, sample products, boost sales and create a lively and engaging in-store atmosphere.
They have also used community engagement as an effective way to recruit. Over the last eighteen months they held four friendly and informal 'Speedy Hire' events to encourage would-be employees to come along for a chat so Terry and his team can match their skills more effectively to the opportunities available. The events have generated more interest and encouraged applicants of all ages to come forward. With some people hired on the spot, it’s proved to be a highly effective recruitment process that’s delivered great results for both Mulkerns and their team.
Brian Donaldson, CEO of The Maxol Group, said: “I would like to congratulate Terry Mulkerns and his team on their Excellence Awards. The site has won many of these accolades over the last thirteen years and I am delighted to see that continue. Their innovation and commitment to delivering excellence across the business every day is extraordinary. I am extremely proud that they operate under the Maxol brand and wish them continued success."
Retailers are assessed through a combination of external and internal site inspections by Maxol management and Head Office, fundraising activities for Maxol’s nominated charity (AWARE NI) local community engagement and mystery shopper visits to observe and assess the quality of the customer experience in store.
