The Southern Regional College has reported that they are expecting a huge surge in demand for Further and Higher Education across all campuses. With ‘A’ level results out and GCSE results due this week the College stated that demand for college places has reached an unprecedented level.
In response to the demand for places last year the College recruited an additional 524 students and expects a similar position for the new academic year.
The Chief Executive of the College, Mr Brian Doran stated; “The College has once again experienced a significant increase in applications for full time courses for the new academic year. In anticipation of the demand for full time education the College has proactively encouraged applicants to apply early to secure a place on their chosen course, with many courses now operating lengthy waiting lists."
"The College will do everything to ensure that as many young people as possible are provided with the opportunity to continue in full time education. We are experiencing a similar situation to our two local universities with the demand for higher education exceeding the number of places provided to the College by the Government. This is a worrying situation and it is important that the community and local representatives support the College at every opportunity to secure an increased number of places in the future. "
"I would like to emphasise that the College offers a range of Degrees, Foundation Degrees, HNDs, HNCs and many professional courses on a part-time basis at the six campuses of Southern Regional College and this can be a more cost effective option for students, giving them the opportunity to earn and learn at the same time.”
The College is holding a ‘Clearing Day’ on Thursday 1 September at 2pm on all campuses to provide guidance to those students who are not accepted onto their preferred course of study and to facilitate transfer to other courses. To avoid disappointment students are advised to contact the Admissions Office without delay to secure a place at the College.
