Renewable energy sources are becoming ever more important as the world’s natural energy sources move towards depletion, and in a bid to demonstrate to students the potential of this market as a viable business opportunity, the Enterprising Innovators through the Inspire project organised a seminar with Mark Gilmore from Kelly’s Renewable Energy Solutions, a Newry based company.
In attendance were HND Engineering students from the Newry and Portadown campuses of Southern Regional College who listened as Mr Gilmore from Kelly’s outlined the business of renewable energy sources with particular focus on heating systems. These are becoming ever more popular in local homes and business premises.
In addition Mr Gilmore outlined details of a competition in which students are asked to design an advanced switch which would control different aspects of an energy saving heating system. It is expected that the winning student, whose product will be made, will then have the opportunity of a work placement with Kelly’s and will receive a cash prize.
This event was promoted through the Inspire Programme - funded by the Department for Employment & Learning
