Southern Regional College held a cross-campus competitive event and awards ceremony today 15 May, to recognise the excellence and diversity of project based learning across a wide range of the College’s curriculum areas.

The event was an excellent platform to showcase the depth and range of creativity and innovation amongst the SRC student body across many industry sectors. The event was also designed to provide students with the opportunity to further develop their skills in planning, problem solving, communication and presentation which were the key outcomes of the experience.

The competing students worked on real, live project briefs, connected to local businesses, as a means to develop their transferable skills as identified by local industry – this is called Project Based Learning. Students were tasked with pitching their ideas to independent judges: John Hughes, Brilliant Red; Tom Kinney, Invest NI and Tracey Rice, SRC Business Support

There were three category awards presented for the following categories:

Project Based Learning Award – Innovation Category
Project Based Learning Award – Enterprise Category
Project Based Learning Award – Communication Category
Project Based Learning Award – Best Overall

Students from a wide range of curricular areas throughout the College have been working on real business briefs and by utilizing their skills and knowledge, have been developing and creating real solutions for these businesses. I want to thank all of the students, staff and local businesses involved as it has been a great success.”
