Hundreds Celebrate at Southern Regional College’s Higher Education Graduation

Southern Regional College Higher Education Graduates celebrated their success alongside family, friends and staff at a prestigious Graduation Ceremony held at the Armagh City Hotel.

Norbrook Prize Winners Left to right: Mr Arnold Hatch, Chair Governing Body SRC, Michael Wasinski, Award winner, Mr Brian Doran, Chief Executive, Southern Regional College, Lynsey McManus, runner up, Kyle Boyd, runner up, Mr Martin Murdock, Financial Director, Norbrook Laboratories466 students were eligible to graduate from some of the 40 higher education courses available at the College. Degrees, Foundation Degrees, HND’s, HNC’s and many more professional qualifications were awarded to graduands from the College’s Armagh, Banbridge, Newry, Lurgan and Portadown Campuses.

Mr Brian Doran, Chief Executive of Southern Regional College welcomed students and their family and friends and spoke of how proud the College is of its students:

“It is an honour to see you all here today, especially those of you for whom this rite of passage represents a culmination of several years’ hard work and application. Your presence here today demonstrates the important role that the College plays in diversifying the higher education system.” Mr Doran continued “The Southern Regional College remains committed to providing everyone, irrespective of social class or economic circumstances, with an equal opportunity to avail of higher education opportunities. The College will continue to resist the pressure to apply top up fees to our HE courses”.

Guest speaker, Mr Jonathan Guest, Managing Director, MJM Group addressed the audience:

“It is a privilege to be associated with Southern Regional College, a centre of excellence. This event today shows how the College enables many people across various areas and in different circumstances to realise their full potential. The energy and enthusiasm of the students here today is palpable”.

Southern Regional College was honoured to have received an annual student award of £5,000 from Norbrook Laboratories as well as two runner up prizes of £3,000 each. Mr Doran paid tribute to Lord Ballyedmond for his generosity in sponsoring the awards which he said provided much needed financial assistance for students progressing to Higher Education programmes

The Norbrook Prize is awarded annually to a student of Southern Regional College completing a full time FE programme of study at Level 3 (e.g. A level equivalent). The prize is awarded to the individual who best demonstrates that they have the skills and attributes most relevant for future employment.

Mr Martin Murdock, Financial Director at Norbrook Laboratories represented Lord Ballyedmond at the Graduation event and presented Michael Wasinski as the winner of this prestigious prize. The runner up prizes of £3,000 were presented to Kyle Boyd and Lynsey McManus respectively.

Student of the Year Awards were presented for each of the eight schools at Southern Regional College.
