Saint Colman's College in Newry celebrates its Bicentenary next month and to mark the occasion the college plans to host a series of events and activities during the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 Academic Years. The College opened its doors to students on Monday 12 May 1823 in William Street, Newry and since then many thousands of students have came through their doors and have made deep impressions on all walks of life throughout Ireland and indeed the world.
One of the first events to take place will see Archbishop Eamon Martin celebrate Mass for the College Community in Newry Cathedral on Wednesday 10 May 2023. Following Mass, the Archbishop will visit the College where he will bless a commemorative Entrance Sign and meet staff and students.
Two of the larger events taking place are the Bicentennial Gala Ball on 10 June 2023 and the Bicentennial Celebration of Football on 18 November 2023 both in the Canal Court Hotel. As well as these they plan to host Football Tournaments, Musical Productions, Charity events and trips and they also plan to produce a commemorative entrance sign.
