Katie McAleavey (18) from St. Paul's High School, Bessbrook, and Ryan Campbell (13) from St. Colman's College, Newry, both received Special Merit Awards. Final Adjudicator Pauline O'Connell, an Irish visual artist, curator and educator, said the winning works "were imaginative and demonstrated high levels of skill and creativity."

The Texaco Children's Art Competition has an unbroken history dating back to the very first competition held in 1955 and is popularly regarded as the longest-running sponsorship in the history of arts sponsoring in Ireland. This year, as throughout its history, it has provided a platform for young artists from Down and counties across Ireland to have their talents recognised and their creativity commended.
