Ken Dawson, author of The Belfast Jacobin: Samuel Neilson and the United Irishmen will give a talk that embraces the informer Samuel Turner, United Irish activity in the Newry area and the information provided by the leading Louth United Irishman John Conallen.

The Convulsed and Distracted State of the Country’: Voices from the Archives
Linda McKenna, Heritage Officer for Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, will give a talk using sources from the National Archives of Ireland’s Rebellion Papers, Papers of the Chief Secretary’s Office and Prisoner Petitions and from PRONI. This talk will recover the voices of people caught up in the turbulent days of the 1798 rebellion of Down and its long aftermath.

McCanns - A Century and a Half of Baking in Newry

McCann’s became synonymous with Newry and with bread and confectionery of the highest quality throughout Ireland and further afield. Hugh McShane tells the story of a baking dynasty that not only provided employment for hundreds but created a legacy of manufacturing and business excellence that endured into the late 20th century.
