Bolster Community are hosting a special Silent. Disco Spooktacular event later this month as part of Newry BID's Health in the City initiative
It's happening Wednesday 25 October, at The Vault Nightclub in The Bank in Newry. First and foremost it is an inclusive social event for adults with learning disabilities and neurodiverse conditions – and the invite has been extended out far and wide to the relevant social and support groups in Newry, Mourne & Down – support workers, carers, friends, family and supporters in general are also warmly welcome. And if you’re reading this and you have a connection in any way, consider yourself invited too (as long as 18+).
Most people (still young enough to enjoy them!) take big nights out for granted, but they aren’t as widely offered (or catered) to young adults of mixed abilities – who at the end of the day, just want the same experiences that everyone wants – the chance to be social, to connect with peers, get dressed up and have the craic on the dance floor!
Jacinta Linden CEO of Bolster Community said, “We just don't see enough social opportunities for young adults of mixed ability, many of our regulars feel uncomfortable attending a busy and noisy nightclub environment, a SILENT Disco will put inclusiveness centre stage in Newry and provide young people with the chance to combat loneliness and feel socially safe, in a space that everyone else takes for granted. We hope this will be the first of many!”
And with October also being Downs Syndrome Awareness Month, there’s no better time to celebrate and help break down social barriers.
Eamonn Connolly, Chair of the Bolster Board said, "Halloween is a social highlight for many young people and it’s so important that this fun is inclusive and for everyone. Bolster is thrilled to be bringing the first ever inclusive silent disco of this scale to Newry which puts the needs of young adults of mixed abilities and neurodiverse conditions first – and we are delighted to feature it as a key event in Newry BID’s ‘Health in the City’ programme of events. Please feel free to contact the team at Bolster if you are not sure if this is suitable for you or your family member."
Councillor Oonagh Hanlon, Chairperson of Newry, Mourne & Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership said, “Newry, Mourne and Down PCSP are committed to supporting opportunities for safe and inclusive events across our District and so we are delighted to be involved in this Silent Disco ‘Spooktacular’. This is part of the ‘Health in the City’ initiative developed by Newry BID and promises to be a great event.”
Any proceeds from the SILENT DISCO Spooktacular will go to back into supporting Bolster Community’s vital programmes and services, so get your tickets at Eventbrite, grab your headphones and help make this a night to remember!
