European Heritage Open Days 2021 run from now until 12 September with a host of FREE physical and online events throughout the district. Check out some of the local ones below.
Newry Museum
This year, as Newry and Mourne Museum are still dealing with the pandemic, they will be doing things a little bit differently.
The Museum will be open on 11 September from 10am until 4.30pm, free of charge as always. When you visit, Museum staff will be on hand to guide you around the building and galleries using our special one-way system. We strongly encourage visitors to wear a mask.
On display will be the temporary exhibitions “War Declared: the local impact of World War II” and “The Reside Collection – Exploring Aspects of Local History”.
The Museum will be uploading a short virtual tour of Newry, looking at several of town’s iconic buildings and their history on their Facebook page NEWRYANDMOURNEARTSMUSEUM
They will be closed on 12 of September.
Derrymore House Bessbrook
Derrymore will open as free flow with 1 or 2 guides manning the room. The guide will answer visitors questions as well as give a small spiel about the Drawing Room/history of the house. Extensive grounds surrounding the house offering play park and…

Poyntzpass Local History Society Walking Tour
The Guided Walk will include some of Poyntzpass' most interesting historical sites, taking in the Newry - Portadown Canal, Poyntzpass Railway Station and some Hidden Gems along the way!

Chandlers House Rathfriland

Located in the south eastern corner of Northern Ireland, on the shore of Carlingford Lough, Warrenpoint Municipal Park has served the local community for over 100 years.

Ross Monument: Rostrevor
An obelisk erected in 1826 on a hill on the outskirts of Rostrevor to commemorate Major General Robert Ross's victory at Bladensburg during the American Second War of Independence of 1812-15. A guided walk/tour will be provided at 2.30 pm on 11 Sept 2021 to 12 Sept 2021 Open 09:00 - 17:00
