Anseo nó le tabhairt amach? / Here or to take out?
Tá an bainne agus an siúcra ansin. / The milk and sugar are there.
Using rud ar bith
Context is important. The expression rud ar bith can mean ‘anything’ or ‘nothing’ depending on how it is used. This is introduced in two ways in Comhrá 4.
Rud ar bith eile? / Anything else?
Rud ar bith. / Nothing
Sampla eile:
Cad é a bheas agat? / What will you have?
Rud ar bith! / Nothing!
Look up the English words ‘anything’ and ‘nothing’ on focloir.ie or in a printed English/Irish dictionary and look out for examples of the expressions rud ar bith. Make a note of any that you could use in everyday situations.
Cupán / counting cups
We’ve already counted pounds using the word punt.
Another word which follows the same pattern of séimhiú / lenition and urú / eclipse is cupán.

c) Pointe teanga: cad é a bheas agat?
In Comhrá 3 and Comhrá 4 we met the word ag / at, by:

The preposition ag / at is used in Irish to indicate possession or having something.
The word agat / at you is formed from ag:
