Write a commentPolice have warned the local community to be aware of securing their property following a number of burglaries in the Newry area over the weekend.
On the afternoon of Friday 12 February, a house was broken into in the Castlekeele Heights area . Nothing was taken.
A quantity of jewellery, a laptop and televisions were stolen from a house in the St Oliver Plunkett Park area of Camlough sometime between the evening of Friday 12 February and the afternoon of Saturday 13 February.
Just after 9.15pm on Saturday 13 February, police received a report of a burglary at a house in the Highfields Avenue area. Nothing was taken.
Sometime between 2.30pm and 10.50pm on Saturday 13 February, a house was broken into in the Ashton Heights area of Newry. Money and a black jacket were stolen. Then sometime between 7.30pm on Saturday 13 February and 2.50am on Sunday 14 February, police received a report of a burglary at a house in the Crieve Court area of Newry. A sum of money was taken.
The police are also appealing for information on a burglary earlier this month. Sometime between 3pm on Friday, 5 February and 10pm on Saturday, 6 February, entry was forced to a house in Latt Villas and a number of rooms ransacked.
Detective Sergeant Emme Wallace said: “I would ask anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in these areas to contact detectives at Ardmore Police Station on the non emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
“I would also remind the local community to be aware of security around their home. Please always lock windows and doors when you are not inside the home, and report any suspicious activity to us immediately. If you think that a crime is in progress, please dial 999. If it is a non-emergency number dial 101.”
