Write a commentPolice in Newry are appealing for information following two vehicles being set on fire in the Blackthorn Grange area in the early hours of Monday 13 October.
Just after 12.10am, police received the report of the fire. Two vehicles, a van and a car, were damaged as a result. At this time it is believed that these vehicles were deliberately set on fire.
Response Inspector Stephen Graham appealed for information. He said: "I would ask anyone with any information about this to contact us at Ardmore Police Station on the non emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
Newry City Sinn Féin councillor Valerie Harte condemned those behind the fires. Speaking about the incident Cllr Harte said “I was disgusted to learn about the burning of the vehicles in Blackthorn Grange. This area is a very quiet area and there are lots of children living in and around this area. Those who carried out this cowardly attack in the dead of night are not welcome within this community. I am thankful that the fire did not spread to nearby houses which could have been devastating.
Cllr Harte concluded “I urge anyone with any information in relation to incident to contact the police so that those anti community people can be caught and brought before the courts.”
