Polska Strona - powitanie

Polska społeczność zamieszkująca Newry i okolice zyskała szansę na własną gazetę w wydaniu internetowym. Chcielibyśmy żeby to była kontynuacja i rozwinięcie projektu sprzed kilku lat, kiedy w tygodniku Newry Democrat można było znaleźć dodatek informujący o codziennym życiu Polaków. Dzisiaj, oprócz grup na portalach społecznościowych możemy również pokazać się tworząc źródło informacji i wzajemnej inspiracji do działania. Wśród nas są ludzie wielu talentów. Możliwość ich zaprezentowania będzie nie tylko źródłem dumy i radości dla autora, ale też motywacją dla innych. Zachęcamy wszystkich, którzy piszą (wiersze, krótkie formy literackie, opowiadania itp.), robią zdjęcia, tworzą szeroko pojętą sztukę, mają pasję, którą chcieliby podzielić się z innymi, żeby zaprezentowali się na naszych łamach. Polska strona będzie również źródłem informacji o wydarzeniach i sprawach, które dotyczą nas bezpośrednio.

I would like to welcome this initiative by Newry.ie for its plan to create a Polish page devoted to news, articles and matters of interest to the large Polish community living in Newry and throughout Northern Ireland.
I congratulate Columba O’Hare for this much welcome development on its online local newspaper and also Artur Kmiecik who has been involved in this development.

The Polish community is now well established since they started to come here from 2004 onwards. Families have grown up and are attending our local schools and colleges and Polish workers are making an extremely important contribution to the economy of Northern Ireland. Life has not been easy with its many challenges such as language and culture, integrating into the local society. They now have a new challenge brought about by Brexit which requires them and their children born here to register with the Home Office for ‘’Settled Status’’ before the end of June this year. Hopefully the vast majority will be successful and will remain here, however some will not qualify and will be asked to leave Northern Ireland.
This potentially will have damaging ramifications for our local economy and the many organisations that they have become part of.
I offer my best wishes to this new venture and hope that providing a platform giving a voice to the Polish community will be a great success.
