An Armagh win against Tyrone is special on any occasion but with the extra spice that they currently are Senior Mens All Ireland Champions, the delight was off the scale - as proven by the massive pitch invasion at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh when the final whistle was blown in todays qualifier game.

With an amazing ten Armagh players putting their names on the scoreboard, including goalkeeper Ethan Rafferty who managed to put two points over the bar it really was a perfect team effort in front of the capacity attendance.

An incredibly enjoyable game to watch, Tyrone were the first to get on the scoreboard with a goal barely two minutes in, but they were unable to capitalise on the score, with Armagh going in to the lead, converting three points followed by a goal from Aidan Nugent in the first 15 minutes! Tyrone were only able to add another point to their tally in the same time frame. From then on Armagh stayed ahead on the scoreboard going in at half time 1:6 to 1:5.

The second half saw Armagh add ten more points to Tyrones five, putting the result beyond doubt.

Five minutes from the end Armagh's Conor Mackin was stretchered off following an injury that stopped play for over five minutes but when play resumed Stefan Campbell steadied things straight away for Armagh with a point. Despite nine minutes of extra time Tyrone could only add another two to their tally, not enough to see a late surge.

Armagh now move forward to Round Two of the Qualifiers next weekend. It will be a time for clear heads, as even though they were the better team today and did manage to dispatch the current champions, next week it will all be back to the start.

Stefan Campbell was named Player of the Match. On the team effort Campbell commented "We stuck to the game plan, we stuck to our principles and today it was all about us, and that squad, the players out on that field"

Final Score: Armagh 1:16 Tyrone 1:10
