St John Bosco Gaelic4Mothers & Others Inaugural Blitz
On a glorious, sunny September Saturday afternoon St John Bosco G4M&Os held their inaugural Blitz in a fun filled Jack Mackin Park.
Teams from Saval, Milford, Bredagh, Wolf Tones and 2 from the host club enjoyed the tropical heat and provided some lovely football for the large crowd that gathered to support the G4M&O initiative.

With the magnificent Jack Mackin Park divided into 2 pitches each team played each other once in a Round Robin basis and to complete the football the teams split up into 2 sides to play the full length of the Newry pitch.
Bosco coach Mo Rooney praised the visiting teams for their outstanding sportsmanship (or should that be sportswomanship?) throughout the day and thanked the teams for making the event a huge success. Mo continued that the success of the blitz was also down to the effort all his players had made over the previous weeks and stated that just a few days earlier he was informed by Croke Park that the ladies would be playing during Half Time at the All Ireland Ladies Football Final on Sunday 28th September.
The Bosco Ladies have had a fantastic opening year, playing all over Ireland, attending the Ulster Blitz and several other team blitzes along with visiting clubs to play single matches. The All Ireland Final exhibition match is next up and to end of a fantastic year the Ladies will be playing in the National Blitz in Portmarnock on the 18th of October 2014. Finally Mo stated that a trip to New York next October is in its early planning stages and hopes he can take his team to The Big Apple to promote the Gaelic4Mothers&Others initiative.
St John Bosco U14s
In preparation for their recent U14 final in the championship the U14 mentors arranged a training session with the current Armagh under 21 manager and all Ireland medal winner Steven McDonnell.
St John Bosco U12s
The U12s travelled to Rostrevor on Sunday 14th to play in the annual Donard Murphy tournament.
With a full squad the U12s played brilliantly and won all of their group games against Rostrevor, An Riocht and Banbridge. Up against Tullylish in the semi final of the cup they met very tough opposition but eventually came out on top by three points.
The final was a hard well fought game where the lads gave their all but were beaten by the narrowest of margins just 1 point by a very strong Longstone team/
St Bronagh’s organised an excellent tournament and Petit Park was in great shape for the matches. The organizers pulled out all the stops to ensure the games went without a hitch and even introduced new measures to support the referee. In an astonishing experiment black cards were replaced on the day with members of the PSNI placing the offender in temporary ‘custody’ by handcuffing them to the goalposts – a GAA sin bin type of solution. As can be seen from the attached photos St John Bosco players Daniel Preece and Pól Óg McCormack both fell foul of the new rules
St John Bosco U11s
With the U12 and u14 leagues winding up the new U11 and U13 leagues kicked off this week.
The U11’s played An Riocht in Jack Mackin Park on Sunday morning and the ‘new’ players who moved up from U10’s Ciaran McAlinden. Jack McElherron, Daragh Óg McCoy, Marco Cafolla, Johnny O’Hanlo, Joshua Madigan and Cormac Flannigan all acquitted themselves excellently in a tough battle with the lads from the Kingdom.
It was a very high scoring game with both sides recording scores of 6:07 apiece. Scorers for St John Bosco
