Newry City Marathon
As you may know arrangements are well advanced for the 7th Newry City Marathon to be held on Sunday 25th May 2014. A number of changes have been made to the routes of this year’s races, with all now going to and from Warrenpoint via the Warrenpoint dual-Carriageway. The full Marathon will start on Hill Street, Newry; with the half Marathon and 10 mile walk starting at Pairc Esler, Greenbank Industrial Estate. All events will finish on Hill Street, Newry. The 1 mile Fun Run will also start and finish on Hill Street, Newry via The Mall/Mary Street.
Once again we will be depending on volunteers to help marshal the races or help at one of the Water Stations; without your continued help we could not put this increasingly popular sporting event on year after year. The exact number of marshals/water station workers required has still to be finalised, although is expected to be less, and therefore it is not known at this time exactly how many we will require. However, we have decided to contact initially all those organisations who assisted us last year (many of whom have been part of our team since the very start) to ascertain whether you would be interested in providing volunteers. A maximum of 10 marshals/water station per organisation is being sought at this stage; although this number may be reduced once the race requirements are determined.
As the route of this year’s event is different from all previous years all marshals/water station crew will be required to attend a mandatory health and safety awareness and information session closer to the time.
As in previous years Newry City Marathon hope to be able to make a financial contribution to your charity/organisation for each volunteer who assists on the day.

Irish News schools competition
Don’t forget we’re continuing our partnership and supporting our local Primary Schools so please cut out the tokens from the Irish News and leave them with John in the club.
