St John Bosco Seniors
Naomh Eoin Bosco 1-15 Kilclief 0-8
The seniors got off to a winning start in the group stages of the Intermediate championship in Castlewellan on Friday night against Kilclief. Leading 9-3 at half time, the boys took their foot off the pedal at the start of the second half and allowed the opposition to close to within 4 points. However they rediscovered their first half form to pull away again and ended the game winning by 10 points.
One sour note from the game on Friday night was a serious collar bone injury sustained by Kevin Faloon which will put him out for the rest of the season. We all wish Kevin a speedy recovery.
Next up is the second game of the group against Tullylish in Clonduff at 6.30 this Friday night 16th August and all support is welcome.

Down Ladies Intermediate Championship Semi-Final
Bosco Ladies travelled the short distance to Mayobridge to face Clonduff in the 1/2 Final of the Down Ladies Intermediate Championship.
Bosco missing 6 regulars due to holiday commitments went into this game as slight underdogs giving that Clonduff had regrouped and had beaten Mayobridge the week prior by 10 points.
Before the match Bosco manager Mo Rooney informed his team that Semi-Finals can be the hardest and ugliest games to take part in as both teams wanted the goal of a Championship Final and his words were somewhat true in what was a hard hitting and at times ugly 1st half but it was the Bosco girls who played the football and continued to try and play football throughout a foul riddled 30 minutes and to make things worse Bosco,s D. McCourt and O. McLogan both got yellow carded before the break thus faced 10 minutes on the side line. It was in this 10 minute spell that the Bosco ladies showed their true worth and with the extra room on the pitch they outscored Clonduff buy 3 points to nil.
Half Time - Bosco 1-6 Clonduff 0-3
During the half time team talk Bosco Mentor Pat Fox reminded the girls to keep playing the football and keep moving the ball forward and this seemed to work as the Bosco added 3 points without reply in the opening minutes of the 2nd half.
To their credit Clonduff continued to pressure the Bosco girls and where rewarded with a goal on 50 minutes but this was to be their last score as the Bosco powered their way to victory with an unanswered 1-3.
On the final whistle it was clear form the ovation from both sets of supporters that both teams had just served up a battle.
On the day for the Bosco every player contributed to what was a nerve jangling and nail biting victory. This win puts the Bosco ladies into their 2nd County Final in 2 years where they will face Mayobridge who earlier toppled League leaders and Championship Favourites Rostrevor by 6 points.
After the match Maria Fox was delighted to be in another County Final and indeed praised the development of this young team. To win the Junior Championship last year was fantastic but to be in the Intermediate Championship Final in only their 3rd year back in senior football is a credit to the girls and indeed the management team.
Finally an exhausted and voiceless Mo Rooney heaped praise on his girls and thanked Maria and Pat for all their hard work. Mo continued that his team enjoyed the tag of being the "Silent Team" in the Bosco and that the girls just get on with their training and preparation for games in their own wee way and stated that while his team will go into the final as favourites he will in no way under estimate the talent and quality of footballers Mayobridge have in their team. Mo finished off by thanking the great Bosco support for all the noise and encouragement for them all season.

St John Bosco U10s
St John Bosco vs Attical venue St Patrick’s P.S.
With 20 players turning out the Bosco mentors were able to field their usual two teams Gaels and Ógs for the two ‘cross field’ games before the 15 a side game played on the full field.
Once again the Cinnamond brothers Ronan and Jamie played excellent football in midfield and forward respectively and helped their team to hard fought wins in both their games. With Calim Gray missing the game as he was away on holidays Nathan Gribben was drafted into centre full back and had an excellent game cutting out several Attical goal attacks.
In the Ógs game Padraig McGoldrick, Ciaran McAlinden and Josh Hanna controlled the centre of the pitch feeding accurate passes into the full forward line of Cormac White and Shea Malone who got onto the scoreboard with excellent points.
Next up for the U10’s is the normal Wednesday evening training session in St Colman’s at 7:00 p.m. and a home game in St Patrick’s P.S. on Sunday 18th.
Wednesday 18th September Golden Jubilee Table Quiz
The St John Bosco GAC are launching a new Player’s Injury Fund to help offset expenses and loss of wages experienced by senior players due to injury sustained whilst playing for their club. To get the fund of to a flying start a table quiz will be held on Wednesday 18th September in the Canal Court Hotel. So get your teams organised and let’s ensure the night is a great success.
Sunday 11th August Club day at the Races
A great day out at the races in Downpatrick in good weather and in good company, even some of the Bosco punters came away with a few pound in their pockets. Many thanks to Bar One Racing and Campbell Racing for sponsoring the free bets which helped to add a spark to the event.
Cúl Camp
This year’s Cúl Camp starts on Monday 12th in St Patrick’s Primary School. Cost is £35 per participant and booking can be made on line where you can avail of a £5 discount or forms are available from club mentors, or register on the day.
