Played in excellent conditions, before a good crowd Thomas Davis Corrinshego GFC were defeated by Derrynoose on a scoreline of 5 -06 to 2- 08 in Dorsey. The season started away back in early January with a challenge match between the minor team and the senior team and culminated today in our first final in many a long year. Many Corrinshego members hoped that Sunday 22nd October would finally bridge the long gap since August 1982 since we won our last senior title, the Armagh Junior Championship .
Before thrown in, the team were in a confident mood as we have ran Derrynoose close already this year. However it was the blue and navy who started the brighter and had a point on the scoreboard within the first two minutes. Although performing well at midfield and winning breaking ball, the young Thomas Davis side could not penetrate the St. Mocha’s defence. Against the run of play Derrynoose scored a ‘comical’ goal due to defensive errors. This was followed up with 2 quick points in succession to leave the score 1-3 to no score. Corrinshego battled away and Cathal Trainer scored their first point on 17minutes, but this was quickly cancelled out by a Derrynoose point. A good run on the wing by Daniel Hughes resulted in a high ball which was knocked down by David Lenaghan to the on-comming Phelim Finnegan who dispatched the ball to the back of the Derrynoose net. Corrinshego now had the momentum and D. Hughes pointed to leave the half time score 1-2 to 1-4 in favour of Derrynoose.
On the resumption Corrinshego started with great vigour and determination to bridge the 30year gap of a senior Cup. D. Hughes pointed on 33minutes and a great run by P. Finnegan ( 36 minutes)resulted in winning a 45meter free, resulting in a move from which D. Hughes scored to level the match at 1-4 a piece. On 39 minutes D. Hughes was injured and many in the crowd felt the young corner forward merited a free, but instead the ball moved quickly into the danger are and Derrynoose scored to place them one point ahead.
Another turning point came on 42minutes when C. Trainor hit the post after an excellent delivery by James Dinsmore . Derrynoose scored another point and then a goal on 47 minutes to leave it 2-6 to 1-5. Again Corrinshego responded with point from both D. Hughes and C. Trainor to leave just two point between the teams with less than ten minutes remaining . However the last ten minutes can only be described as disappointing as lack of concentration resulted in the Newry side leaking goals. First on 51 minutes and then a further two goals on 55 and 57 minutes killed this game off and any hope that the Division 3 Shield title of heading down the Chancellors Road. In between this substitute Ryan O’Reilly caused havoc which resulted in David Lenaghan pulling a goal back, followed up with a D. Hughes point.
To their credit Corrinshego battled for 55 minutes and controlled the game at times, but in reality to concede 5 goals in any game and expect to win is a tall order. At the final whistle Co Board Official Seamus Mc Donagh presented the winning Derrynoose captain with the new Division 3 Shield. Everyone at Corrinshego would like to thank Dorsey Emmetts for their facilities and the way they officiated at the match. It has been a long season and we take many positives , such as having a panel of 28 players for a fixture in late October and also reaching the decider.

Corrinshego are holding a fun Pub Quiz in the Canal Court Hotel on Thursday 15 November 2012. This is a few weeks away so plenty of time to gather team members. Should be good fun on the night. There will also be a chance to win some great raffle prizes.
