This Thursday night Morgan Fuels Down Senior Football Championship defending champions Kilcoo take on Saval in Hilltown at 8.15pm in the Championship first round.
‘The Magpies’ are currently sitting on top of the all County League and are favourites to retain their title and to secure a fantastic ‘5 in a row’, which was last achieved in 2008 by Mayobridge. On Friday evening Kilcoo took on Saval in the league coming out winners by 0:20 to 0:7.
There are two stand-out first round Championship ties, with Clonduff taking on Ballyholland at Pairc Esler on Friday evening (8.15 pm), as part of a senior double biller which also features Mayobridge v Rostrevor (6.45 pm), and high flying Glenn taking on championship specialists Bryansford on Sunday evening (7.30 pm)
With the Down champions scheduled to play in the preliminary Round of the Ulster Club Championship, there will be championship action in the county on four of the next five weekends, with the County Final scheduled for 25 September.
There is also a full round of Trocaire Intermediate Football Championship fixtures this weekend with An Riocht v Darragh Cross and the Belfast ‘derby’ between Bredagh and Carryduff looking to be the pick of the ties. All games this weekend are being played as double bill fixtures.
